When you get Permanent Resident, what will happen to the visa of your spouse or child?

Hello.

I am Hitoshi.

Thank you for always coming to my page.

When you get Permanent Resident, what will happen to the visa of your spouse or child?

If your spouse has dependent visa, you should apply for change of status to “spouse of Permanent Resident”.

If your child has dependent visa, you should apply for change of status to “Long-Term Resident”.

In principle, “Child of Permanent Resident” visa is granted to when the child was born in Japan under his/her father or mother who has already got Permanent Resident.

However, in these applications, if your financial status is unstable or your conduct in Japan is not good, you may not get the result you want.

As to the timing of applying for change, I suggest you should do it right after you get your Permanent Resident.

I hope this information will help you.

Thank you.
